This is our own music video and two others from our genre.
"Do It" one of the few videos we could find of our artist (House Rulez), we felt that this music video represented the group well because their techno/ dance genre of music is presented through the video. This is by the effects used, this whole video is shot on a green scene which enables them to create a video that is almost an allusion, for the bright colours and patterns seem 'out of this world'.
Here a split screen effect was used, we also included this effect in our music video because we knew it was fitting to the conventions of our artist's music video. This can be seen on the screen grab above of the video "Do It".
Conventions of dance music videos also include the use of bright colours, as shown in these screen grabs of our artists music videos. We felt that using colour effects stuck to the conventions of our artist and that it makes the video more visually engaging . Here are some examples from our music video:
Meaning that this music video is conceptual because they are creating a surreal reality. Also from this video we gained inspiration for our own video, moving lips, we wanted follow the themes of our artist "Do It" music video, also we thought it would fit better with our funky style we were going for. To an extent it could be said that our music video is conceptual because you don't have colour flashed or disco light effects when you go to a fitness class.
Also we included jump cuts which obviously doesn't happen in the real world, but it was fitting to our song. Choosing "Hight School Disco Day", that has a strong beat, it therefore meant that we had to do beat editing to keep the footage in time with the music. Which is a definite convention of dance music videos, the shots throughout only last a maximum of three seconds, to keep up with the song.
This is a clip of one of our jump edits.
The song "Mr Saxobeat"is an dance music video but with a narrative, because we didn't want our music video to be soley conceptual. We decided to include narrative also because thought it would make our video more interesting.
Also in "Mr Saxobeat" the female actors dance very seductively in their revealing and tight costumes. From watching dance music videos such as this we realised that many dance videos sexualise women, therefore we needed to achieve this. Our actors would have to be very sexual: posing, sexual dance moves, winking etc. We did not want it to look half hearted because then our audience would of found it comical.
Here are some screen grabs of music videos sexualising women;
During all the dance music videos we watched it was evident that lots of close ups were used. They mostly consisted of boobs, bums, thighs and faces. We took this on board and included many close ups of our dancers.
