EllaM - Question 1

Our media product uses and develops the forms and conventions of real media products because we heavily researched our genre (of dance music) and therefore were able to develop the conventions of our own music video. This meant that we had to create an up tempo video with fast cuts (to keep in time with the beat of the music), bright colours (costume and lighting), women with sexapeal, lots of make-up and use effects when editing (to create a surreal atmosphere).

We gained inspiration for the bright gym wear  from the "Call On Me" video by Eric Prydz.

"Ready For The Weekend" by Calvin Harris is a very good example of a colourful dance music video, each scene/shot is a different colour.

From the Perfect Exceeder video by Mason v Princess Superstar we were able to get an idea of  how sexual our dancers needed to act.

The amount of make-up is over the top but it does make the women seem more sexual.

The effects used here make this music video surreal, out of this world. Which compliments the lyrics in this song.

The two music videos we could relate to best are below, we felt that these videos showcased the conventions of what we thought dance music videos consist of. Our music video does use conventions of other music videos as mentioned, with us receiving inspiration from Eric Prydz - Call on me and Mason v Princess Superstar - Perfect Exceeder. We saw that both of these videos promote sexual and promiscuous women, mainly by the costumes they wear!

It could be said that we did develop the conventions of traditional dance music videos, for we had a small narrative running along side the sexual dancing. We didn't just want to create another average dance video, we wanted it to be different, we were able to integrate humour into our short story line.
